Digital Cable Services

Will it effect my current monthly charges/ bills/payments to cable operator.

You have to pay Rs. 82 plus taxes for a minimum of 30 Free To Air (FTA) channels, even without a STB now (in CAS areas). For Pay channels you can pick and choose channels of your choice a single channel or on bouquet package basis (Maximum Rs. 5.35 per channel). As per new regulations this will be effective in CAS areas from January 1, 2007, when the pay channels cannot be viewed without a STB.

What is the Make of STB?

Set Top Boxes available are from internationally renowned STB manufacturers and conforming to BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards).

Where to book STB? (Directly or thru Cable Operator)?

Customer can call the Customer care Service of Digicable (________) for ordering their STB. One can also book the STB through their Local Cable Operator.

It would take ____ days maximum from the date of filling the order submission of booking form for the STB to be delivered and activated. To avoid delay you may like to pay by Demand Draft or Cash, which will save Cheque processing time.

What is the guarantee/ warranty period for both STB and Smart Card (SMC)?

STB and SMC both carries one year Warranty from date of activation.

Who will service my STB (company/operator)?

Servicing will be done by the company thru the local operator. Generally it takes less than a week’s time to replace the STB. However you will get a replacement within 48 hours during warranty period. You can always call the Customer care number for any further help

My remote is not functioning. Who will repair it?

Remote will be replaced at very nominal charges.

What is the cost of STB?

Presently we have Outright purchase scheme and the cost is Rs 3000/- (includes all taxes, Octroi, delivery and miscellaneous charges) . For CAS Available ares STBs available at rental Rs.45 per month with refundable Deposit of Rs 250/ *. For Non CAS areas STB available at rental Rs.30 per month with refundable deposit of Rs 999/- *

How many boxes will I have to buy if I have more than 1 TV set?

To access pay channels with your choice, you will have to take one STB for each TV set.

Is the STB compatible to access Internet?

We have our networks, where Cable Internet is functioning. If anybody wants Internet, he can get through the same cable network and there are customer friendly packages along with Digital STB. Our technical team will provide the solution. We have package deals with Cable internet.

After we shift our premises / location, what happens to the STB?

If you plan to shift your residence, please inform your Cable Operator or call the customer care service. The STB has to be returned to our office. Incase if you are shifted to any of the Digicable locations you can use the same STB by informing your local cable operator to activate the STB. But if your new residence does not come under Digicable service, we have refundable policy; the money will be returned once our office decides the depreciated value of the STB. The depreciation value is calculated @15% per annum, as per new regulations.

What are the rental schemes available?

Yes, we have rental schemes for CAS areas , the marketing and delivery of the STBS under these areas has started in Mumbai and Delhi. As you know CAS is effective in defined zones of Mumbai and Delhi from January 1, 2007. In these areas STBS will be required to watch any Pay Channel.

Some times I don’t get Channels like Zee, Sony, Star Plus, Nicklodeon, Star Movies etc. (Pay Channels), at the same time I am getting channels like DD1, ETV Marathi, (FTA Channels).

If the STB is not put on Standby mode/Left ON for 8-10hrs you may face these problems. Please put STB on standby mode before you switch off TV set. Resending of ICC, Pairing and Activation command through the call centre will solve this problem. It is also possible because of bad signal quality or NO signal. In such case please call your local cable operator to rectify the problem.

Do you have a double audio feed for some channels (different languages?)

Yes, it is possible through our Digital STBs, wherever a broadcaster gives more than 1 audio (language) feed.

I had kept my STB OFF for 2 days and no channels were visible. There was a message on the TV screen… “Access Denied Please contact your cable operator.

When you keep your STB OFF for longer time your channels get cut-off. This is because of the technology. Resending of ICC, Pairing and Activation command through the call centre will solve this problem.

Does the storm, rain or weather effect my digital STB and viewing through STB?

No, since the basic carrier is cable, the weather vagaries have no impact on Digital Cable and no dishes are involved, there is no such problem for Digital Cable.

What if I don’t like the service ? Am I stuck with this STB?

Not at all, you will have a choice, unlike other service providers! We believe that digital cable has the maxidmum ability to provide variety, choice and DVD quality. However, if you are still not satisfied, then as per procedures and guidelines you are also allowed to return your STB with your deposit refunded. A 15% per annum depreciation will be deducted from your deposit.

How will I get the connection of Digicable and what are the charges?

You can call the number provided in our contact details for your respective area and get the required information.

I have concealed wiring, will it work for Digicable cable connection?

Yes it will work for our connection, if there is any problem in wiring our technician will rectify it.

How many channels I will get?

We are providing between 86 to 106 channels.

How can I tune in channels if they get misplaced?

You can manually tune the channels or simply put TV in Auto Tuning mode.

If I have TV in living room can I get additional connection in bed room

Yes we can provide as many connections as you want in your apartment.

Will my transmission get affected in rainy season?

No our signals are not affected in rainy season.

If I have any complaint how it will get resolved?

You just have to call the local number given to you at the time of installation.

How much your engineer will charge in case of complaint?

No. We do not charge for attending complaints.

Broadband Services

What is Broadband?

As defined by TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), Broadband is an Internet connectivity that provides a consistent transfer rate of atleast 256 Kbps (i.e., 32 KBytes/sec.) on a shared platform.

How long will it take for you to connect me?

Normally it shouldn’t take more than 8-10 working days after booking the order.

What equipment do I need to get connected to PACENET?

A PC in working condition with a LAN Card duly installed.

Does PACENET provide a 24x7 Telephonic Support?

Yes. PACENET provides 24x7 Telephonic Support on (022) xxxx xxxx. However, your first point of contact will be your local operator who has connected you to PACENET. In case a field visit is required, he will sincerely try to resolve it at the earliest and at the most, within 24 hours.

Can PACENET provide me connectivity on my Linux-based computer or Apple Mac?

Yes we can. In fact, all our servers run on Linux as well as on Macintosh.

What if I wish to change my plan after a couple of days?

You can change your plan at the expiry of your existing plan. If you wish to renew your plan before the expiry of your existing plan, you will have to forego your existing plan that will be replaced by the new plan. No refunds or adjustments will be allowed in such a case. You will be charged for the new plan as per the existing rate structure in your area.

Do I get a dedicated line or a shared one?

A broadband connectivity is essentially a shared connectivity. But the standards that we adopt in executing a sharing ensure that your service does not suffer grossly.

What do you mean by Data Transfer?

The sum total of uploads and downloads happening over a user account over a given period of time is called Data Transfer.

If I am not downloading anything but only browsing and chatting, does it still count in Data Transfer?

Yes. In case of browsing, whenever you go to any website, you are able to see the pages because they download to your browser. Similarly, when you try to login into your email account, you send your login name and password to the mail server. This data is conveyed to the server from your browser and so it counts as upload.

In case of chatting, the words that you type and SEND form a part of uploads and the words that you RECEIVE form a part of downloads.

Will I be given a Static IP or a Dynamic IP?

PACENET’s customers are allotted Dynamic IPs by default. However, Static IPs by default are available only to Leased Line customers, however, broadband customers can avail of it on payment of extra charges.

If I surf the Internet for an hour or so, how much bandwidth would I utilise?

Can’t really say. It depends on what website you are browsing. For example, if you were browsing www.google.com and just reading the generated results, your bandwidth consumption would be extremely low. However, if you click on any of the results, the bandwidth consumption goes up to the extent of the programming that has been done on the page that opens. Webpage sizes could be anything between 2 Kilobytes and 200 Kilobytes or even more, depending on the web designer’s skills and constraints.

On the other hand, if you are downloading heavy stuff like music, movies, software etc. over a high speed account, your bandwidth consumption could even run into a few Gigabytes by the end of the day!

How do we connect a customer?

The customer’s connection is carried out by our Franchisee of his/her area. The Franchisee lays a CAT5e cable upto the LAN Card in the customer’s computer. The other end of this cable is connected to a Switch installed in the customer’s building or some other building around it. This Switch is a part of the Franchisee’s network and is connected to our server at the Franchisee location. After the CAT5e cable is laid upto the customer’s computer, a dialling software is installed in his computer by the Franchisee’s engineer. The customer can log onto our network by entering his User ID and Password into this software. This dialling software connects him to PACENET’s network through his LAN Card. REMEMBER, that though it is called a dialling software, it does not dial through the telephone line but through the CAT5e network of PACENET. Thus, it merely serves as an authentication tool.

Can PACENET assure me of Network Security features like anti-virus protection and hacker-proof network etc.?

Nobody can give a 100% assurance of security over any network. However, we have provided the maximum possible security to all our servers. Providing security right upto your doorstep is not possible for us as we are already providing a pretty good connectivity at the most competitive rates and providing anything beyond this would result in a substantial increase in the cost.
